Dominica is an independent island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, nestled between the French islands of Guadeloupe to the north and Martinique to the south. It is not the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti in the Greater Antilles.
Discover two of Dominica's most scenic crater lakes, both located within the Morne Trois Piton National Park. From the village of Laudat, a short scenic drive leads to Freshwater Lake, nestled beneath Morne Micotrin and serving as the main water source for the island's hydroelectric plants.
From there, a mountain trail - winding through lush vegetation and crossing fresh mountain streams - leads to the smaller, more remote Boeri Lake. Swimming is possible in both lakes, offering a refreshing reward after the hike.
