Dominica is an independent island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, nestled between the French islands of Guadeloupe to the north and Martinique to the south. It is not the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti in the Greater Antilles.
Spend a day immersed in the culture and history of the Kalinago people, Dominica's indigenous inhabitants. The experience begins with a craft-making demonstration in the village, followed by a walk along an ancestral trail - now part of the Waitukubuli National Trail - to the home of a local Kalinago farmer, where you'll sample seasonal fruits and see traditional Cassava Bread being made.
The trail continues to the rugged Salybia Bay, passing a monument marking the last Kalinago uprising, before concluding at the Kalinago Barana Autê, an interpretive center showcasing Kalinago history, art, and traditions, with lunch in a traditional setting overlooking the Atlantic.
