Dominica is an independent island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, nestled between the French islands of Guadeloupe to the north and Martinique to the south. It is not the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti in the Greater Antilles.
A distinctive waterfall experience unlike any other on the island. Victoria Falls is fed by the White River, which originates in the Valley of Desolation, giving its waters a striking grayish hue. Accessed from the village of Delices in the southeast, the journey there is an adventure in itself, winding through mountains, valleys, and panoramic coastal vistas.
The hike up the rugged White River Gorge involves scrambling over boulders and crossing the river multiple times before reaching the falls, which tumble roughly 200 feet into a basin - with the option for a cautious swim in the pool below.
